I just found an mp3 on my computer, have no idea when I got it or downloaded it, but it's a punk rock-type cover of the song. The artist is listed as Green Day, but I know it's not Green Day. Anyone know who it could possibly be?
There's also a Barbie Girl cover, sounds sorta like Green Day, but I'm almost positive it's not.
Can anyone please provide a source (like the person who said "they have done an official cover of the song," because it's not a live recording and I'd like to know when else they've done it.

I know that song. it is a pretty kick AZZ version of tom petty. but i have NO IDEA! at first I thought it might be NOFX cuss i'm pretty sure they did a cover of "summer of 69" but now im not so sure.

edit: you most likely got it from limewire or something. and the cool guitar part at the end of itwas pretty sweet. and when they break the bass down in the middle and then speed it back up again. love it.

edit: oh i didn't know it wasn't tom petty. I saw him perform it at the superbowl and i thought it was him.

well i looked in wikipedia and it said that some other bands had made the cover but they dont sound very punkish
so i looked in itunes and i looked through the previews and the list above is what came out as the punk versions

The band is Lagwagon and you can find it on their album called Trashed. They do a few other covers as well. There could be other bands doing another version but I'd bet it was Lagwagon.
